MVPTP Support Projects
The RANZCP has received Australian Government funding under the Military and Veteran Psychiatry Training Program (MVPTP) to deliver the following support projects during 2022 – 2025:
Orientation Webinar
The MVPTP Orientation Webinars commence at the start of each rotation to provide support to trainees entering an MVPTP funded post. The webinars aim to increase the understanding and awareness of MVPTP and the support projects available to them.
MVPTP Educational Grants
The Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (RANZCP) has available grants of up to A$3,000 for trainees in MVPTP funded posts to support specific educational activities including lectures and seminars by Phoenix Australia and Australian Defence Force (ADF), state-based conferences or coaching for exam preparation.
If you are in an MVPTP funded post and would like to apply for this grant, please apply here.
Military and Veterans’ Conference Funding
Funding will be available to support trainees in an MVPTP funded post to attend conferences relating to military and veterans’ mental health. Our previous trainees have attended the 2023 Australasian Military Medicine Conference (AMMA) and the 2024 International Military Medicine Congress. At these conferences trainees can connect with military and veteran psychiatrists as well as those within an MVPTP funded post. The 2025 AMMA conference will be held in Adelaide in October. Once more information has been released communications will be sent to trainees in an MVPTP funded post.
Mentoring
The RANZCP has an established mentoring program to allow trainees to gain a mentor in a subspeciality or interest area and support those who are interested in a career within the area. The MVPTP has collaborated with the mentoring program to allow trainees in an MVPTP funded post to gain a mentor who specialises in military and veteran mental health. Funding is available to allow mentors and mentees to meet face to face.
Resource booklet
The resource booklet has been developed as space for trainees to access reading lists, podcasts, and other activities to enhance their training and experience in an MVPTP funded post. Resources have been sourced from fellows and members of the Military and Veterans Emergency Services Mental Health Networking Committee.
