Old age assessments & requirements
Your assessments and requirements to complete the Certificate are:
- eight Entrustable Professional Activities (EPAs), two per 6 month rotation
- one Observed Clinical Activity per 6 month rotation
- mid-rotation and end-of rotation In-Training Assessments (ITAs)
- research project
- specific clinical experiences including psychotherapy
- 40 case summaries
- study requirements based on your formal or self-directed learning.
You will complete learning and development plans at the start of each year. At the end of your Certificate you will complete a checklist and sign off.
Learning and development plan
At the beginning of each year of training, you must submit a written proposal outlining your plans for learning and development.

Entrustable Professional Activities
You must attain eight Stage 3 psychiatry of old age EPAs, two per 6-month FTE rotation.

Observed Clinical Activity
You must undertake one Observed Clinical Activity with a person aged over 65 during each 6-month FTE rotation.
In-training Assessments
You must complete mid-rotation and end-of-rotation ITAs. You must submit an end-of-rotation ITA form via inTrain within 60 days of the completion of a rotation.
Research project
You must complete a research project of 3000-5000 words in length.
A successfully completed Fellowship Scholarly Project, or a relevant piece of research that has satisfied the Fellowship Scholarly Project exemption criteria may be used to fulfil this requirement.

Case summaries
You must complete 40 case summaries of 50-100 words each, with 10 summaries per 6-month FTE rotation.
Diagnostic categories are prescribed to ensure reasonable coverage of both high-prevalence and low-prevalence disorders.
Requirements are divided into:
- 25 high-prevalence disorders
- 15 low-prevalence disorders
- At least 5 cases must be seen in a consultation-liaison setting.

Clinical experience requirements
Your experience must cover:
- five medico-legal reports, for example testamentary capacity, fitness for trial or guardianship
- management of two older people receiving electroconvulsive therapy (pre- and post- treatment)
- five half-day memory clinics.
Psychotherapy experience
Provide psychotherapy to 3 people aged over 65 years for at least six sessions each.
Completion of all three cases will fulfil the Stage 3 Fellowship psychotherapy requirement.
