Australian Medical Council accreditation update
17 Jan 2025
Update
The Australian Medical Council (AMC) has responded to our 2024 progress report and their findings indicate that the College has made substantial progress towards meeting the required conditions.
Fourteen more conditions have been satisfied, with the majority of conditions (84%) now either progressing satisfactorily or satisfied. Notably, the status of Standard 7, which addresses issues related to trainees, has been upgraded to ‘Substantially Met’.
The AMC has commended the significant strides we've made in improving governance, advocating for workforce issues, and incorporating the perspectives of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders, Māori, and people with lived experience into our work. Our ongoing reviews and projects in curriculum and assessment reform have also been recognised.
While substantial progress has been made, there is still work ahead. We will continue to embed cultural safety into our curriculum, implement reforms to EPAs and assessments, and introduce mechanisms to ensure that policies are applied consistently across all Branches.
A sincere thank you to the many Fellows, trainees, and College staff whose dedication and hard work have contributed to these significant achievements.
Our next submission is due in September 2025.
