Final year medical student, James Cook University

My flourishing interest and curiosity in psychiatry deepened further after attending the PIF Retreat. It was truly heart-thrilling to visit the RANZCP Head Office in Naarm (Melbourne) and be surrounded by a community so dedicated to advancing healthcare in various specialities.

Throughout the retreat, engaging discussions with leading psychiatrists and subspecialists offered invaluable insight into the multifaceted nature of a psychiatric career— encompassing clinical care, research, and academia. I gained clarity on the pathways to the fellowship, the diverse subspecialties available, and the dynamic roles psychiatrists play across different settings.

This experience has further motivated and inspired me to picture my journey to become a compassionate clinical psychiatrist, an innovative researcher in neuropsychiatry, and a knowledgeable academic. And to the colleagues I have met through PIF, I am excited to follow as we grow into the next generation of psychiatrists. Thank you RANZCP and PIF for organising such an encouraging experience that helps shape the aspirations of 30 young doctors and the future of psychiatry.
