Arvin Ardakani

3rd year medical student, University of Melbourne

Attending the PIF Retreat was deeply inspiring and expanded my vision for a career in psychiatry. Connecting with psychiatrists who shared their personal journeys into the field affirmed my passion and opened my eyes to the exciting range of subspecialties and opportunities available.

I found the presentations on cutting-edge research, particularly psychedelic-assisted psychotherapy, incredibly intriguing. These conversations ignited my ambition to actively contribute to innovative psychiatric treatments. Before the retreat, I underestimated psychotherapy’s profound impact on patient outcomes, but now I'm determined to incorporate psychotherapy into my future practice, emphasising holistic and compassionate care.

Additionally, networking with fellow medical students and recent graduates from across Australia and New Zealand energised and motivated me. Building connections with peers who share my interests reinforced my commitment and provided valuable support as I move forward in my journey.

Overall, the PIF Retreat reinforced my commitment to becoming a psychiatrist who makes a meaningful difference, dedicated to enhancing patients’ lives through innovative and compassionate care.
