Trainee news
Knowing what’s available when it comes to wellbeing is key to getting your year off to the best possible start.
There are many options available that trainees can access on the College’s Wellbeing hub, a webpage dedicated to wellbeing support for all members.
College support during training
If you are experiencing problems during your training or have any concerns, the College is here to help, and you can reach out at any time. You can also reach out to the College Training or Exams teams or your local Director of Training assistance with any questions you may have about the program and assessments.
Fee-relief options available
Trainees are eligible to apply for reduced rates of fees for financial hardship, serious medical conditions, parental leave and other extenuating circumstances, and can also apply to pay fees in instalments. Part-time training fee options are also available.
Free confidential counselling and psychological support
The RANZCP Member Support Program puts any RANZCP member in Australia or Aotearoa New Zealand in touch with confidential counselling, support or coaching from qualified professionals through an independent service funded by the College. This free service is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
This service is completely separate from the College. The College receives de-identified statistical data on the use of the service, but no data on the individuals who use it.
Doctors' health programs
There are several doctors' health services and options you can access. Drs4Drs is an independent, safe and confidential health advisory and referral service, offering free 24/7 mental health support over the phone from doctors, psychologists and counsellors with expertise and training in the care of other doctors and medical students. Assistance finding a local GP or health specialist for doctors and medical students is also available.
Call 1300 374 377 for urgent and non-urgent support or visit the Drs4Drs website for local contacts in your state or territory within Australia. Call the Doctors Health Advisory Service on 0800 471 2654 in Aotearoa New Zealand.
Self-help and online CBT programs
Interactive, online CBT programs like This Way Up, Mood Gym and myCompass are evidence-based self-help options to support you in coping with stress, anxiety or depressive disorders.
Peer support networks
Visit the Mental Health Professionals Network (Australia) or Hand-n-Hand (Australia and Aotearoa New Zealand) to connect with other health professionals for free, group or one-on-one support.
You can get help with any matter directly from the RANZCP Confidential Support Line (formerly the RANZCP Member Welfare Support Line), available as a call back service during business hours on 1800 941 002 (Australia) or 0800 220 728 (Aotearoa New Zealand) or email support@ranzcp.org
If you need anything more, please feel free check in with us at support@ranzcp.org.
