Updated College guidance on the administration of rTMS
17 May 2024
Policy
The College has published an updated version its Professional Practice Guideline (PPG): Administration of repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS).
This includes updated guidance and advice on:
- Summaries of evidence for a range of psychiatric conditions
- Patient selection (including children and adolescents)
- rTMS treatment variables
- Maintenance rTMS
- Retreatment with rTMS
- Skills and training
The PPG was developed by a working group of the Section of Electroconvulsive Therapy and Neurostimulation (SEN), approved by the Board after committee consultation, and subsequently published in the Australian and New Zealand Journal of Psychiatry following peer review.
Psychiatrists are encouraged to utilise the updated PPG to guide their practice when using rTMS.
Thanks are extended to all those who helped in developing these updated guidelines.
Consumer information about rTMS is also available.
Please contact policy@ranzcp.org for further information or if you have any queries.
