RANZCP NSW Branch Meritorious Service Award Winners 2024

Associate Professor Loyola McLean and Professor Philip Hazell have been jointly awarded the 2024 RANZCP NSW Branch Meritorious Service Award in recognition of their exceptional contributions to psychiatry.

Associate Professor McLean has led ground-breaking research in perinatal and early infant attachment, consultation-liaison psychiatry, and somatic psychotherapy, publishing over 100 peer-reviewed articles. She is widely respected for her clinical expertise in psychotherapy and perinatal mental health and has dedicated herself to the education, training, and mentoring junior doctors.

Professor Philip Hazell is an internationally recognised child and adolescent psychiatrist who has provided frontline care for over 30 years. His research has influenced the way schools respond to the suicide death of a student, and challenged the use of tricyclic antidepressants for young patients. He has been a mentor to many young clinicians throughout his career.

They have both made enormous contributions to the College as branch and bi-national committee members, examiners, and as presenters and convenors of programs for many RANZCP conferences.

The NSW Branch is delighted to acknowledge and celebrate their achievements at the Branch Annual Dinner in November.
