Australian reforms to the regulation of vapes

Smoking cessation
The Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) have enacted regulatory amendments regarding the regulation of vapes in Australia. These amendments aim to address the increasing health risks posed by vaping, while preserving legitimate patient access to therapeutic vapes for smoking cessation and the management of nicotine dependence, under health practitioner supervision.
The College supports the changes in principle. We are aware that the changes to prescribing pathways will impact members and consumers.
The College has recently updated its Position Statement 97: E-cigarettes and vaporisers, which sets out our position on nicotine vaping products.
The TGA will continue to provide information and resources throughout 2024 to help people understand and comply with the regulatory changes. The College will continue to monitor developments and keep members updated.
