Apply now for the 2023 RANZCP Mentoring Program

We’re pleased to announce that applications for mentors and mentees participate in the RANZCP Mentoring Program have now opened.

Eligible members are encouraged to apply for the RANZCP Mentoring Program today.

The RANZCP Mentoring Program is a free member only service for trainees and early career psychiatrists in their first three years post-Fellowship.

The program provides a facilitated 8-month mentoring program specifically designed to match and pair mentees with suitably experienced College Fellow and Affiliate members.

What is mentoring in psychiatry?

Eligible trainees and early career psychiatrists receive access to confidential, non-supervisory support from another more experienced psychiatrist. Mentees receive valuable support and professional inclusion, access to a collegiate network, and professional guidance towards achieving long-term career goals.

Mentors from previous years programs said that:

  • "I do believe that the mentoring program is invaluable to a trainee and also provides an opportunity to mentor with a spirit of generosity".
  • "Mentoring is always rewarding – helping a young person progress their early career as a psychiatrist".

What’s involved?

Eligible mentees are paired with an experienced psychiatrist based on their needs and interests.

Dedicated training activities, resources and supports have been developed for all participants. Approximately seven hours total preparation time will be required for this.

Mentoring partnerships will then be expected to communicate on a regular basis (approximately 1–2 hours per month) for a total of 8-months from April–December 2023.

Providing mentoring to trainees is an eligible CPD learning activity (category 4.7 College Activities).

Am I eligible to apply?

Mentoring partnerships opportunities are available bi-nationally across Australia and New Zealand.

  • Participation as a mentor is open to all Fellows of the College (in Australia and New Zealand) and Affiliate members.
  • All Trainees and early career psychiatrists in their first 3 years post-Fellowship and eligible to apply to be a mentee.

When can I apply?

Submit your expression of interest or application by Friday 24 February 2023.

Places to participate in the program are limited and applications may close early if the program is oversubscribed.
