QLD PIF members to QLD Branch Conference 2024
Eligible PIF members from Queensland are invited to apply for a scholarship to attend the 2024 Queensland Branch Conference. The conference is being held at The Shangri-La Marina Cairns, Pier Point Rd, Cairns, Queensland from Friday July 12 to Sunday July 14 2024.

Listen, think, and share your ideas and dare yourself to challenge your ideologies. Let us evolve, progress, and learn from each other at the RANZCP Queensland Branch CME Weekend 2024."
The Conference will explore the theme "You met me at a very strange time in my life". It is a great opportunity to further your psychiatry knowledge by hearing from diverse presentations, and for you to network with RANZCP Fellows and trainees.
Two (2) sponsorship places are being offered and include:
Full conference registration (Saturday and Sunday)
A ticket to the Welcome Reception on the Friday evening, and a ticket to the Conference Dinner on the Saturday evening, and
Up to A$300 towards supporting travel to the Conference.
Sponsorship recipients must commit to attending the full Conference program. Please note that this sponsorship does not cover costs associated with travel or accommodation. PIF members who are Fellows or trainees of other specialties are ineligible to apply.

Sponsorship Details
Up to two (2) PIF sponsorships to attend the RANZCP Queensland Branch Conference 2024, being held at the Shangri-La Marina Cairns from Friday 12 July to Sunday 14 July are available to RANZCP PIF members from Queensland who are currently enrolled as medical students or who are postgraduate Year 1, 2 or 3+ doctors. PIF members who are Fellows and trainees of another specialty are ineligible to apply.
Sponsorship is valued at up to A$940 (incl. GST) and comprises:
- A ticket to the Friday night welcome event
- Full conference registration (Saturday and Sunday)
- A ticket to the Saturday night conference dinner, and
- Up to A$300 towards supporting travel to the Conference.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must:
- be a current or new PIF member based in Queensland who is currently enrolled as a medical student or is a postgraduate Year 1, 2 or 3+ doctor. PIF members who are Fellows and trainees of another specialty are ineligible to apply.
- commit to attending the full program.
- not have previously received a PIF scholarship to attend a Queensland Branch Conference.
- PIF members who have already registered for this Conference are eligible to apply.
Travel Support
Travel support of up to A$300 is available to successful applicants living outside an 80 kilometres radius from Cairns. Applicants are required to submit a proposal for their travel support as part of their application for sponsorship. Travel expenses could include:
- accommodation in Cairns during the duration of the Conference
- flights, including transfers to and from the relevant airport
- travel costs by public transport
- road travel using a private motor vehicle. Related commute costs to/from Conference including mileage costs, road tolls and parking costs would be covered
The following expenses will not be covered:
- meals, as these are included in Conference registration
- mini bar or other room service costs as part of hotel accommodation
- excess baggage costs
- expenses not submitted and approved in the original application, at the discretion of the PIF Team
Delegates are responsible for booking and cancelling their own travel arrangements and any fees that may incur. Proof of receipts (tax invoices) will be required as evidence to claim reimbursement, which will be processed after the event. Sponsorship recipients should note it can take up to ten business days to receive their reimbursement.
Applications and Outcome
Applicants are required to submit a written statement up to a maximum of 150 words addressing the following application criteria:
- why they would like to attend the RANZCP Queensland Branch Conference 2024.
- their interest and/or involvement in mental health and psychiatry.
- how attendance at the conference may benefit and/or influence their medical career aspirations
Applications must be submitted electronically via the online application form by Wednesday 19 June 2024. Applications received after this time will not be accepted.
The Selection Panel will assess the applications based on the application criteria and determine the successful applicants. The Selection Panel’s decision is final.
The outcome will be announced shortly after the closing date and successful applicants are required to confirm their acceptance of a sponsorship by email by the provided deadline
Photography and Recording
Images and/or voices of attendees may be recorded during the conference for use in RANZCP website, communications and media, including social media. If you do not wish for your image or voice to be publicised, please email pif@ranzcp.org.
Evaluation
Sponsorship recipients will be required to submit a short reflection on their attendance at the event.
COVID-19 Compliance
The health and safety of conference attendees is our highest priority. The RANZCP is mindful of the health risks posed by COVID-19, and the importance of following official medical advice with respect to social distancing, practicing good hygiene and staying at home when unwell. The RANZCP requests that any delegate who is feeling unwell or has cold or flu-like symptoms, or who may have been in contact with someone with COVID-19, not attend the conference.
If, on medical grounds, you are unable to attend the conference, you must cancel your attendance in writing by email to pif@ranzcp.org.
Funding
The sponsorship is supported by the Queensland Branch Committee, with partial support by the PIF program.
The RANZCP has received Australian Government funding under the Psychiatry Workforce Program to deliver the PIF program
